Free Speech on Campus
The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) - Spotlight on Speech Codes, 2007
Summary: The annual "Spotlight on Speech Codes" report reveals that of the 346 schools studied by FIRE, 259 received a “red light” rating. To receive such a rating, a school must have at least one policy that clearly and substantially restricts freedom of speech. FIRE investigated speech code policies at 196 major public universities and the available policies from the 100 “Best National Universities” and 50 “Best Liberal Arts Colleges,” as reported in the August 2006 “America’s Best Colleges” issue of U.S. News & World Report.
